About
Mike Carter was born in the late 1900s in Ada, Oklahoma, and raised on the banks of the Washita River — where he found girls and guitars and started writing songs on the back porch.
For years he played them to an empty room, then decided people ought to hear them. With encouragement from songwriters like Verlon Thompson, Kevin Welch, and Lloyd Maines, he took to the two-lane highways of Oklahoma and Texas looking for a spot to stop and play.
He keeps his songs close to the bone — gritty, with a little red dirt wrinkle. Just a songwriter who sings his songs.
Singing for the waitresses in a no-star motel lounge.
